Valentine’s Day 2013
1) Diptyque Candle: they are some of the best candles ever produced and are available in a plethora of gorgeous scents from rose to lavender, myrrh to lily of the valley, phonicsonline and beyond. They are beautifully packaged, in a minimal chic, apothecary style and are inexplicably luxurious, available in 300g (£55), 190g (£40), and 70g (£20). If purchased with a Diptyque lid (only available for 190 g candles), she can travel with her precious candle and be reminded of you wherever she is, through Diptyque’s magnificent olfactory experience.
2) Champagne: You may think it’s cliché, hariansurya but it’s fabulous if you choose the right one. I always recommend Veuve Clicquot for three reasons… it’s absolutely delicious, not overwhelmingly expensive for a Champagne with such a grand provenace, and (least of all), its aesthetically pleasing and sexy yellow label. Other wonderful options include Pol Roger White Foil, Laurent Perrier Rose, and my absolute favourite, Perrier Jouet Belle Époque which is exquisite in taste and in its bottle’s Art Deco design.
3) Flowers: Leave the unimaginative red roses behind and step in to a fresher approach. If she’s very feminine and girly, I would suggest a bouquet of red or pink peonies. If she’s the classic sort, disneyfansites I would recommend Alba Plena camellias. Lastly, I might suggest yellow roses for the spirited and vivacious woman. In the Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton believed these flowers to be “sun-golden”, “rich”, “strong”, and of a “fiery beauty”. I unequivocally, agree.
4) Hermes Scarf: quite simply put, an Hermes scarf is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift, a luxurious keepsake, a future heirloom, an elegant arm sling if needed a la Princess Grace. If you decide to buy this masterpiece of a gift, be sure to choose a pattern that she’ll adore. Though all are expertly crafted, not all Hermes scarves are created equally in beauty.
5) Picnic Basket: Plan a romantic indoor picnic and fill a hamper or picnic basket with culinary treats. Be imaginative and choose what you feel is best for her. – Cheeses from Neal’s of Covent Garden
– fresh bread from Paul Bakery
– bottle of Veuve Clicquot or Hendrick’s Gin
– Tiptree Jams (particularly Little Scarlett and Mulberry)
I could go on and on, but then that basket would be getting too heavy!
